FAQs
  1. How long do individual counseling sessions usually last?
Sessions usually last from 45 to 50 minutes with the first session sometimes being a bit longer than others.
  2. What happens during the initial session?
We ask that clients come in 15 to 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork if you haven’t downloaded the forms and filled them out at home. We will obtain a copy of your insurance card if you would like to submit an insurance claim, so be sure and bring your card with you.

During the first visit, I will gather basic information about you and your current circumstances and we will look at symptoms you are experiencing. The first session offers an opportunity for us to begin to get to know each other, and for you to “tell your story.”
  3. How often will I be coming in for sessions?
Most of the time clients come in for weekly psychotherapy sessions at first. This can shift to every other week or longer between sessions as you progress. For people who have financial or time constraints, or who have to travel a long distance to get to the office, we can start out with sessions that are every other week or are even longer apart.
  4. Do you accept payment through health insurance companies?
We do accept payment through health insurance companies. When you make your initial appointment we will get insurance information from you and let you know if our services are covered through your insurance. Most Medical Savings Account type plans allow coverage for all of our services. Prior to your first session we also try to find what your co-pay will be each time you come in. Some people do not have health insurance or choose not to submit claims for these services and pay for services directly.
  5. How many times will I have to come?
This varies depending upon the severity of the problem and what needs to be done to remedy the situation. Sometimes clients can receive the help they need in 4 or 5 sessions and other times people come in for several months or even longer. We make every effort for counseling to be as brief as possible.
  6. Can I bring someone else into my therapy session with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring someone else into your session if you choose to. Clients sometimes bring other family members or even people outside the family if there is a reason to do so.
  7. Are you a “Christian counselor”?
I am a Christian and I practice my faith. When my clients request it, I will provide “Christian Counseling.”

I also work with people from other religious perspectives, and their faith and spirituality can be incorporated into therapy when clients want to do so.My approach incorporates mind, body and spirit as part of psychotherapy.
  8. Is there anything else I need to know before coming in to counseling with you?
Yes, I ask that all of my clients avoid wearing cologne, perfume, aftershave lotion, scented hand lotion or anything else that has a scent. I am highly allergic to these things and request that my clients refrain from using these products when they come into my office.
